Jon was born November 22, 1948 to Donald and AdaBelle (Halstead) Klein in Alexandria, the second of six children. In junior high and high school, he excelled at wrestling and was an All-State Wrestler. After graduating from Jefferson Senior High in 1967, Jon enlisted in the military and served as a Marine Corporal in Vietnam. Jon married Susan Skrove in 1074. They enjoyed the home they built south of Lake Ida with quick access to fishing and hunting. In 1981 their daughter, Jessica, was born. Jon taught her to hunt, fish and fix just about anything. Jon worked a variety of trucking jobs and in 1979 he joined Holiday Gas Companies where he drove gas transport for 21 years. In June of 2000, after a car accident left him paraplegic, he continued to dispatch and mage the trucks for Holiday from his home in Miltona. He and Sue divorced in 2004, but have remained close friends. Jon never let his disability get the best of him or hinder his spirit. He found ways to continue hunting, fishing, riding ATV, driving his own vehicle and living independently until the very end of his life with minimal help. Jon enjoyed many trips to Canada and Red Lake fishing and hunting with his friends and brother Dan, all of whom helped him to find more inventive ways for him to get himself into "trouble" while continuing to live life to the fullest. Jon was known for his sense of humor, having an opinion about everything, his uncanny ability to take 30 minutes to tell a 5 minute story and making sure that he took good care of his family and friends. Jon was an active member of the Alexandria V.F.W., Legion, N.R.A., MN Deer Hunters Association, and Quality Deer Management Association. | Ellen Kolkind KANABEC COUNTY TIMES Wednesday, Febuary 10, 1984 Local woman dead of multiple gunshot wounds. An Ogilvie woman was found dead of multiple gunshot wounds, in her home, around 5 p.m., Friday, Feb.3, according to Kanabec County Shefiff's Department reports. Ellen K Bollig, 34, was found shot in the head, neck and chest, apparently shot be a shotgund fired at relatively close range, according to Von Thompson, county sheriff. Her husband, DeWayne R Bollig, 35, was in Kanabec County Jail, awaiting arragnment at the edition's deadline MOnday. He has made statements about the incident to Anoka County and Kanabec County Sheriff's Department authorities, reported Raymond O'Bert, county investigator. Ellen Bollig was killed around 3:15 p.m., investigators estimate. There was no definite signs of a struggle in the couple's mobile home, located on Hungry Run, Thompson said. The Bolligs' three children were not in the house when the shooting occured, officials believe. DeWayne Bollig is believe to have been home all day, authorities said. Bollig left Ogilvie sometime between 3:15-3:30 p.m., officials estimate. He and the children drove to Bollig's sister's house in Anoka. She called the Anoka County Sheriff's Department. Anoka Count, in turn, called Kanabec County. It was around this time, 4:45 p.m., that the sheriff and deputies were dispatched to the Bollig mobile home, reports said. The case is currently under investigation KANABEC COUNTY TIMES Wednesday, Febuary 17, 1984 Grand jury hears Bollig murder case A grand jury was impanelled yesterday to hear the county's case against DeWayne R. Bollig, for murder. Bollig, 34, of Ogilvie, face charges in the shooting hearth of his wife, Ellen, Feb. 3. He was arragned on second-degree murder charges last week, with bail set at $100,000. The grand jury's decision was not yet decreed when the Times went to press. The purpose of a grand jury is to decide if there is enough evidence to charge a suspect with murder, and to decide with which degree of murder the suspect should be charged. A grand jury is the only body that can call for first degree murder charges. "The grand jury takes the evidence and decides if it should be first degree," said Joe Loren, county attorney, answering a query as to the dress of charges he would seek. "in the case of a grand jury, mine is not an advocate role,' he said. "Ijust present the case to the jury, and they make the decision." Investigation of the incident began when the sheriff's department found Ellen Bollig's body in the family's Ogilvie mobile home, cut through by three close-range shotgun blasts to the head, neck and chest. DeWyne Bollig was under arrest in Anoka, having his sister call aughtorities from her home there, when Ellen's body was found, department reports said. HEnce, the sheriff's department investigaion is attempting to piece together "what happened and the events leading up to it," said Von Thomspon, county sheriff. "We're trying to develop as much background on them (the Bolligs) as we can to try and determine what happened and why," Thompson explained. "This investigation is a fact-finding mission that has involved much work, both in the county and out, by this department and the BCA (Bureau of Criminal Apprehension)." Building this case has involved many long days and short nights. KANABEC COUNTY TIMES Wednesday, Febuary 24, 1984 Bollig grand jury recesses, reconvenes in murder case The grand jury reconvened Tuesday in the hearing for murder charges on Duane Bollig, Olgilvie, Hearings began last Turesday when the grand jury was convened the first time. No decision on charges, however, was handed down last week and the grand jury was recessed until this week. "We're waiting for another witness," Joe Loren, county attorney was recess a week. Ultimately the jury will decide what charges and what degree of charges Bollig will face. A grand jury is the only judicial body that can demand charges of first degree murder. Bollig, 35, faces charges for the shooting death of this wife, Ellen, Feb 3. [ This is as far as I have gotten > I will update after my next trip to Minneaota Historical Center. I did find an obituary for Richard R Bollig. DOD: 02.23.2012, listing Ellen and their infant son as preceding him in death - and their three sons, as surviving him.] |
