The summer of 1967, my family moved to Yakima, Washington. I went to school at Moorhead State. Actually, my dad and Irv Baltes built the former Colonial Club. I was in a JHS - some "sorority" had a dance in the basement out there once - I think! Lanny and I have been in Iowa since 1976. We are now just south of Des Moines and have been in Indianola since December of 1980. Though we have lived away from our families, we have many friends here that are family to us. I have my Master's Degree and have taught for about 24 years. I've been with second graders most of that time. I love teaching on a year round calendar and believe it is a great option in eduation. We do drive past Alex frequently. I have attended the Class of '67 reunions in Breck several times. We also are in the twin cities frequently with nieces / nephews / weddings / babies/ etc. I enjoyed my two short years in Alex and mainly keep sketchy contact with Gwen Erickson and Diane Mounsdon Johnson, James P Johnson, Jay twin of Jed - moved away from Alex in 1958 Johnson, Jed 7/96 TWA Flight 800 explosion The following is an exerpt from an article published in the EchoPress 8-7-96. "Jed Johnson, who died at the age of 47, was one of two twins born in Alexandria, the sons of Dwain and Vivian Johnson. Dwain worked at Alexandria Produce, his father, Joe's business. The Johnson family, which at the time included older brothers Larry and Craig and younger sister Nancy, lived in southwest Alexandria, on Fillmore and Ash Streets. When Jed was in 4th grade, the family moved to Sacramento, California. Later Jed dropped out of junior college and he and his twin brother, Jay, moved to New York. There, Jed met famed pop artist Andy Warhol and began to associate with Warhol's entourage. Jed found and designed an apartment for Warhol, edited Warhol movies and directed the feature-length Andy Wahold's Bad in 1977. Throughout the 1980s and early 1990s, Johnson garnered rave reviews for his design work and was considered among the top three or four interior designers in New York. Among the houses and apartments he designed are those of Mick Jagger, Richard Gere, Barbara Streisand and Diane Sawyer. Johnson was on his way to Paris to open a new fabric and antiques line when the aircraft exploded, killing 230 passengers and crew. Jed Johnson's parents are divorced. Dwain lives in Minneapolis and Viivian lives in California. Johnson's twin brother continues to work with the interior design business based in New York."
